Sorley – Let It Shine [DFTD]
Sorley returns to DFTD with a cohesive three-track EP, ‘Let It Shine’, building on the North East producer’s recognisable club-oriented aesthetic. His previous DFTD release, the heavily coveted ‘Deadeye’, secured the prime time ‘Friday Fire’ feature from BBC Radio 1 tastemaker Danny Howard. Debuting on Riva Starr’s Snatch! imprint with his chart topping ‘She Freeks’ EP, before releasing more through Danny Howard’s imprint Nothing Else Matters. The next outing for the producer and DJ is a rubbery, bass-led club release featuring heavy vocal manipulation decorated with squelchy synth lines.

Eight years since its inception, Sam Divine has relaunched DVINE Sounds to the world with a slew of vibrant releases, quickly establishing the independent label as one that is constantly evolving. This time the label head herself collaborates with a true pioneer of UK garage, Scott Garcia, whose influential releases shaped the garage scene, helping the genre become more than just ‘A London Thing’. Fans of the genre will recognise the unmistakable sound of ‘Closer Than Close’, a staple of the UKG scene originally released by former Prince collaborator Rosie Gaines. This divine re-imagining synthesises the inextricably linked worlds of house and garage, allowing for an energetic, up-tempo release with an infectious bassline.

Love Attack Records owner Alan Dixon joins forces with Homoelectric resident Will Tramp for the gospel house Glitterbox release ‘Sunday Stomper’. Over the past two decades, the two DJs and producers have established themselves as respected nightlife experts; Dixon for his longstanding residency at Savage, London in addition to appearances at Circoloco and The Warehouse Project, while Will’s Mancunian club experience Tramp! was host to a plethora of huge names in the industry such as Kraftwerk’s Wolfgang Fur, Chromeo and Justice. Dixon’s usual synth-led sound makes way for a piano-driven hi-octane vibe, fusing with Tramp’s disco sensibilities for ‘Sunday Stomper’, a high energy floor filler featuring euphoric, sermon-like vocals.

Rebooting a classic from ’95, one of Rio De Janiero’s most prolific and commercially successful artists releases on renowned house label Soulfuric once more. DJ Meme is a household name, known for lengthy sets and bold remixes that infuse American and European house music with the percussive sounds of Brazil. The original ‘Deliver Me’ from the Urban Blues Project, consisting of Soulfuric label founders Brian Tappert and Marc Pomeroy, with vocals from Michael Procter, was a genre-defining house record and a definitive favourite of Frankie Knuckles. Updating the record with his signature energetic style, DJ Meme reintroduces a deserving, certified classic to the masses while reigniting the passion amongst the OG fans.
